Hello DASN members!
I wanted to share with you some Dallas Public Library programs that might benefit your organizations this summer or during your after-school programs. These are just a few, hand-picked programs, but please visit www.dallaslibrary.org for a complete list of programs, services and resources.
QUICK FACTS ABOUT DPL:
• Dallas Public Library consists of 25 neighborhood branches, the Central library and Bookmarks. To find the location nearest you, enter your zip code in the “Library Locator” box at http://www.dallaslibrary2.org/hours.php.
• Dallas Public Library cards are FREE for residents of the City of Dallas. Visit your local branch to apply for one. Available for all ages.
• Children’s programming is offered every week at each of the Dallas Public Library locations. Contact your local branch for a schedule of programs or visit their library web pages by clicking on the library name at http://dallaslibrary2.org/hours.php.
PROGRAMS & RESOURCES:
• Every Child Ready to Read offers FREE parent workshops and staff/caregiver trainings on 6 early literacy skills to help prepare children, newborn to 5 years old, to be ready to learn to read when they enter school. For more information email ECRR@dallaslibrary.org or call 214-671-8291.
• The Mayor’s Summer Reading Program runs from May 29 through August 7, 2010. Kids up to 17 years old can register and receive prizes weekly for reading 3-5 hours a week. Register online or at your local branch. For more information visit www.dallaslibrary.org/summerreadingprogram.
• Dallas After-School Homework help is powered by Tutor.com and offers live tutor help for elementary, middle, and high school-aged students, as well as adult learners. All you need is a library card number to log-in and get started! Visit the library Kids’ Page at http://www.dallaslibrary2.org/childrensCenter/kids.htm.
• Our 2 Bookmobiles function as traveling libraries. Apply for library cards, check out/return library materials, search the library catalog and more! Request the Bookmobile to stop by your site by completing a Bookmobile Stop Request Form at http://www.dallaslibrary2.org/services/bookmobile.php.
