Training Experiences

Available Professional Experiences:

  • Peer-to-Peer is a discussion forum, open and free to any DASN members.  This is a chance to meet peers and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing afterschool programs.  Beginning in June 2009, the topic set for each session focuses on a specific element of the Afterschool Quality Advancement (AQuA) tool, as well as implementation of the tool itself, although other topics may arise from conversation.  The participants for this experience most often include executive directors and program managers.
  • Workshops and Classes are face-to-face learning opportunities covering a plethora of topics related to successful afterschool programs.  These may be single-session opportunities of a frew hours to multi-day experieces and are led by members of the Network and other professionals.  Audiences for these sessions range from frontline workers to administrative staff, depending on the topic.  Many are open to the general public in addition to our members.
  • Special Events are training days of multiple classes.  Participants select sessions to attend based on their positions and their interests.  These are often held in collaboration with other agencies or organizations and are usually open to DASN members first.
  • Online Courses are currently SEDL products brought to you by DASN.  These focus on integrating literacy, math, science, art and technology into afterschool programming.  A workshop session on using these courses will be available before the classes actually begin.  College credits may be earned with additional fees.  These courses take place over several days at the convenience of the participant's computer.  All levels of afterschool employees are welcome and these are open to DASN members first.
  • Tuesdays with Terri is a webinar format occurring the first Tuesday of each month beginning in September.  These hour-long lunchtime call-ins through GoToMeeting.com will focus on AQuA implementation and questions.  If no questions or issues are presented, an agenda including facilitation tips and other hints for success will be in place.  Any DASN member working with or considering the AQuA self-assessment is welcome to join!
  • Customized Training can be conducted if you have special needs or a large staff requiring training.  Contact Terri Barnes to discuss these options and pricing.
